I just had to comment to your line about low rise underwear for toddlers. OMG, if I hadn't seen it myself just yesterday, I wouldn't have believed it. I was shopping for underwear for my 8 yr old daughter and I couldn't believe that they actually sell low rise bikini underwear for children. Hasn't it been bad enough that to go shoe shopping its near impossible to find anything without a two inch heel for my preschooler. What's next, thong underwear?

You could actually make Aliyah yourself some day; I am sure you have thought about it and discussed it. There are pulpit rabbis who successfully make aliyah and continue to make a Jewish difference in ways in which they are uniquely talented. Israel, baruch Hashem, has tons of talmidei chachamim and tons of rabbis, but not necessarily tons of the brand we have here which might be a real contribution to an increasingly religiously divided society.
When I was in high school we had some big macher in the kiruv world come and speak and I remember asking him if he thought someone in kiruv work would be better off in Israel or the US. He surprised me by answering Israel, his rationale being that although we have more "lost" Jews in the US, in Israel they are easier to reach and a person can actually make more of a difference. Sometimes I think of us on "self-shelichut" for a while. Don't get me wrong, I totally understand staying here, I know the Rav did and so many others are here for the same reason, but another HS rebbe once told me (in a different context) that you're not allowed to sacrifice your (or your children's) neshama in doing chesed for others. It becomes a judgment call for each person and family to consider whether they fall into that category or whether/how much they feel they're compromising their family's spiritual development.
Btw, this was forwarded to me as "Why Rabbis Make Aliyah." It's really a version of a bunch of the unique things about Israel that make people want to move there, with a lot of comments. http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Articles/Article.aspx/7224

As far as the low rise underwear goes, as a parent of way-older-than-toddler age kids, if you fall into the traps now it really does set the tone for always. There never is a good age to start introducing your opinion/values to your kids if you haven't done it from the start. Not really such a small bad thing

Nefesh b'Nefesh is, lulei demistafina, a fantastic project and it is truly amazing how many people continue to pick up and make aliyah. They - not the flag wavers or paraders or even the orange shirt wearers - are the true Zionists. Yiyasher kocham!

As for your dreams, keep in mind that as a Rebbetzin, renegade or not, you have, lulei demistafina, a tremendous zechus in helping with the education and religious nurturing of a community. Your desire to go to the Holy Land is testimony to your passion for our people, which, for you, manifests itself in another (and some may argue, myself included, better) way of bringing holiness to our nation.

It will give you another reason to pray for the Redemption this Tisha B'Av - so that you can fulfill both dreams. But for now, the galus needs you.
